About Kumira
Kumira is a social community where people of all abilities find each other, share what they love and belong.
Why we exist
Too many people, especially adults with disabilities, have few chances to try new things, meet people outside their usual circles, or explore what they might enjoy as a hobby or a job. Meanwhile, every neighbourhood is full of people with skills and passions they'd happily share.
Kumira brings people together in groups built around shared interests, places and goals — to talk, swap ideas, keep useful information in one place, and meet up at small, welcoming experiences.
What makes it different
- Accessibility is upfront. Every page works with a keyboard and screen reader, and every event lists the supports it offers, from step-free access to plain language and quiet spaces.
- Supporters are part of it. Family members, friends and support workers can join in, and come along to events, usually free.
- A safe, moderated space. Group moderators and our team look after the community, new events are reviewed, and anyone can report something that doesn't feel right.
- Built for belonging. Members-only groups for personal topics, small events, and plain-language summaries throughout.
